Play For Jade Events Inc. is an endeavor created by the parents of Jade Lee Marasigan who tragically lost her battle with Major Depressive Disorder and Social Anxiety at the age of 17. As a registered California non-profit, we host fundraiser events as a tribute to Jade and to help raise awareness of the importance of teen mental health and suicide prevention. Net profits will go directly to the Jade Lee Marasigan Charitable Fund at the Northridge Hospital Foundation. The Charity provides individualized guidance for families, accessibility to treatment, and financial assistance for those at-risk patients who are in need of continuation of care for their mental health, as well as community resources for wellness programs. We're committed to providing hope for better outcomes.
Did someone say "Pickleball"?!?
We're proud to introduce another fun, inclusive community event to help raise awareness and build support benefit adolescent mental health and suicide prevention — the first-ever Dink For Jade Pickleball Fundraiser! On Saturday June 13, hosted by our friends at Sherman Oaks Tennis + Pickleball, we welcome beginners and advanced players to come together to engage in friendly competition. Top players will earn the honor of being recognized as Jade's Elite Pickleballers! We will have fun matches to 11 points, food + beverages, raffles, silent auctions, and more!
Jade's Impact
In February 2026, we were contacted by the leadership at Northridge Hospital Foundation who was in need of support for a critical case being handled by the Center For Assault Trauma Services (CATS). Play For Jade Board Members were brought to tears by the report that a 13yr old girl had been groomed and assaulted by an online predator and was in need of intensive care from the abuse trauma. We immediately recognized and agreed that this kind of help is why Jade's Charity exists. Together with The Change Reaction, we were able to contribute to a month's worth of in-facility treatment that she needed and deserved. We are hopeful that she can begin her long, difficult journey to heal.
Here's the story as told by KTLA Channel 5 News in Los Angeles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ6xEcK0PKo
***April 2026 Update from CATS***: The young girl transition into residential treatment and is doing amazing. She has truly thrived in the program—fully participating and especially enjoying journaling and group therapy. Despite some expected difficult days, she has demonstrated incredible resilience and a deep commitment to her healing.
She was discharged from residential care on April 8th and is currently living with her grandfather, the primary stable figure in her life. Since she will not be eligible for private insurance until November 1st and her Medi-Cal coverage does not include this intensive level of care, we are staying closely involved to ensure she has the necessary support for this next phase of recovery.
The recommended next step was a partial hospitalization program (which she started on Monday) to help her reintegrate into her home, school, and social life. Discovery Mood in Sherman Oaks is near her home and was a perfect fit. This program runs Monday through Friday, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Without your support, donations, empathy, love, and trust, we could not have made this kind of tremendous impact. Thank you for believing in our cause to honor Jade's legacy.
Extending Jade's Legacy
As part of our commitment to advocate for adolescent mental health, we have begun building Jade's Network of Therapists! The network is built from trusted, compassionate professionals who offer age-appropriate talk-therapy using a wide range of modalities. Eligible individuals can contact available providers within the network to receive 10 sessions — FREE OF CHARGE! We believe that affording therapy should not be a restriction to those who need and want help.
We believe that there is a better way for approaching psychiatric prescription medications as part of a young person's treatment. To that end, we have partnered with Genomind to provide our community FREE pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing! We believe that it is a resource that may empower and help adolescents navigate their mental health journeys based on how their biology, not just their symptoms.
From Jade's experience, we are familiar with the difficulties in the mental health system to find therapists and deal with psychiatric medication challenges to help manage one's daily emotional balance as components of her treatment. The status quo is unacceptable: we were met with navigating lists of therapists who are unavailable or unqualified. The trial-and-error process of being prescibed medications by her providers and wait for something to work was painfully slow, drawn out, and frustrating. Sadly, Jade's depression and anxiety spiraled and her hope diminished after efforts to give her lasting relief to manage her of her pain were ineffective. In spite of her valiant daily battles, she believed that she was broken. We know others who have endured very similar frustrations. The system needs to change.
On Monday October 13, 2025, we returned to DeBell Golf Club for the 3rd Annual Golf For Jade Fundraiser! With the implementation of a playoff in the golf format, and the introduction of the first-ever Golf Ball Derby, there was added excitement to the event!
There was rain in the forecast but it held back long enough for ideal golf weather — cool, partly cloudy and a little bit of wind. It was definitely a fun day out on the course with returning players and new supporters in the field! Thank you to all who participated and to all the sponsors and our community donors who contributed raffle and auction items! As a combined effort, we raised over $22,000 and will be donating the net proceeds to Jade's Charity!
We were deeply saddened to find that on May 20, 2025, a brilliant young spirit left this world too soon after battling with depression and anxiety — one who coincidentally shares Jade's Birthday. As a tribute, her family has chosen to honor Sinthia Cardenas' life by fundraising to benefit a mental health organization that can make a meaningful impact. We are honored that the Cardenas family reached out and started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to support Play For Jade Events Inc. 100% of the money transferred will be donated directly to the Jade Lee Marasigan Charitable Fund at the Northridge Hospital Foundation in Sinthia's name.
